I was completely off on my timing, for that I swallow my words.

Post #33887352 dated 22/06/2018: "I think AP are 6 months from a demonstrable chip, and the quality and durability of the chip is now a big question to me, reading between the lines obviously." and also "Personally I also think too much emphasis is being put on the wafers, when in reality the Control system from the DSR is far more vital. I can’t imahine how AP have dealt with some very fundamental electrical and electro-magnetic influences in dense electronics. The MEMS is certainly difficult, but not nearly as complicated as the brain of the operation. "

However, I was right about my suspicions that the quality of the device is not going to be at the level that we've been told it will perform. From a discussion with Ian Dennis in 2016 where AP were going to have demonstrations that August, to this latest announceent, I don't think AP are anywhere near a demonstration of a chip.

The last sentence in the announcement reads "Accomplishing the noteworthy milestone of being able to begin the acoustic characterization of our devices is a strong indication of the significant progress being made over the past weeks. "

AP were going to release specifications third week of May, it turns out we're in July and they are only just beginning the "acoustic characterisation" process on an inferior performing product.

It's hilarious that the AP makes mention to playing "to the tune of" happy birthday. I could put together a speaker from scraps in 10 minutes to produce that tune. It's embarrasing to read the announcement from a tech company having to explain a frequency sweep - because you know, of all the things that AP could elaborate on, they chose to define that particular term just in case the audience of the announcement is a bunch of monkeys.

"While significant improvements are clearly evident in each new wafer received, at the time of this announcement the wafers received have yet to reach the qualitative levels that are required for the company to play complex music at the anticipated sound pressure levels."

Massive difference between discrete tones "to the tune of" a simple song like happy birthday, and complex tones that not only have the fundamental frequency, but the harmonics of that frequency. This chip is so far from being a reality, I expect the SP to take a deeper dive.
