I was at Uni studying commerce and computer science when Netscape floated.
I entered the workforce and developed corporate applications during Web 1.0. The general thrust of Web 1.0 was digitising internal processes. There was a gee-whiz factor to it all. The "outside" world wasn't being effected.
That is not the case in 2018. Technology is being applied to the physical processes of industries that are desperately in need of and ripe for disruption.
Elon Musk is disrupting energy and transportation because there has been little or no innovation in these industries from the big incumbents for virtually 100 years. Example: Tesla's can have their braking improved with a software update over WIFI. Whereas Joe public and the media will be amazed, I'm thinking "Yeah? And? Should and could have been done years ago"
Health is no different. We computer scientists see hospitals and the Health industry in general as perhaps the most untouched, under developed in terms of technological innovation.
Hospitals and the Health Industry are desperately in need of a revolution.
APAS is an obvious example where physical processes can and should be automated.
These days I'm a DevOps consultant. I automate software processes all day. I wouldn't want to do stuff manually if I don't have to.
