Aside from anything else, I would like to see VLA in play for the sheer joy of the spotlight it would bring to an aussie biotech. Lots of reasons out there for a counter bid, not least of which would be a blocking move designed simply to frustrate (extort) Merck into paying a higher price. Now that would be fun to watch.

If a counter offer did come (I am resigned to a single digit chance of happening), I am inclined to think it would come from left field - something weird like SRX PE play or a random mid-tier player looking for a boost - a la Genzyme or some such.

Meanwhile, must stop daydreaming and do something productive..
