Here is a IMO highly relevant 20 year chart of SANTOS share price, that IMO is worth thinking about when considering the current takeover offer for STO.
The $6.65 offer is what STO was selling for in 2004.
Now, a lot has changed for the company since then and there have been a lot of issues (I am not a STO holder and so are not as familiar with them as STO shareholders would be), but it is worth remembering that STO now has significant interests in 2 LNG plants that it did not have then, and LNG plants turn out to be a long-term very profitable businesses.
And for reference, the oil price in 2004 was between USD$40 and USD$50.
