I have a FIFO mate who started his fortnightly flights to Port Hedland on Virgin. The amount of stuffing around Virgin has given him has him determined to avoid them at all costs.
Right now he is on a flight to Perth with his girlfriend. He is 6 foot 7 inches and always books the extra legroom seats well in advance. Today they turned up and were told there was a plane change and there was not enough extra leg room seats for him on the bigger plane. Not only is he in the middle but his girlfriend is allocated to the back.
He was told to apply to customer relations for a refund of the fare difference, in a tone that indicated it was going to be a while before he got any money back.
I hear of plenty of instances where Virgin is not doing things right. The upcoming fuel price rises will probably ensure profits are a long way off.
The sell off by Air New Zealand was not for nothing. The abandoning of the code share across the Tasman ought to ring alarm bells when Air NZ says they want to maintain their standards and they can't do it with Virgin as their partner.

Its making money though! And lots of it.
They’ve just been injecting cash into buying subsidiaries and debt reduction. That’s holding the profits back.. Once that all stabilises, which appears to be now, Id be expecting profits.
