Last year, the climate change group in the Australian Government issued a discussion paper "Abatement incentives prior to the commencement of the Australian emissions trading scheme". Since then there has been a change of government, and there would have also been submissions on the discussion paper remains to be seen.
The discussion paper proposed that emitters which purchase "Greenhouse Friendly" certified offsets would be eligible for "early action credits" that could be exchanged for emission permits in the first year of an emissions trading scheme. Given that COZ is certified under "Greenhouse Friendly" it seems possible that offsets purchased could potentially be used as a future source emissions permits. Thjis puts COZ in quite a good position. I wonder if this was a factor in the big deal with Woodside taking place.
Having had my eye on COZ for a while, I took advantage of the stock market slump to buy in today :)
