Cortical Dynamics Limited is an Australian company which was incorporated in 2004 to commercialise technology developed at Swinburne University of Technology, Melbourne. Earlier in 2004, research managed by Professor David Liley had led to the invention of a new methodology using a complex mathematical algorithm to quantify important physiological features of higher brain function and give real time feedback. The methodology was initially applied to monitoring the depth of anaesthesia and the Brain Anaesthesia Response monitoring (BARM) system was developed.
In 2005, BPH Energy Limited, an ASX listed alternative investment company, invested in Cortical Dynamics.
Cortical has now received both TGA and CE approvals and is now commencing its sales campaign for Europe, Australia and other qualified countries.
Cortical Dynamics is working to provide clinicians and researchers with an improved ability to detect and accurately quantify the effects of a wide range of drugs on brain function. Particularly the effects of a number of widely used anaesthetic agents not detectable using current commercially available approaches.
Cortical Dynamics has an extensive patent portfolio which is currently going through national phase in Australia, New Zealand, Europe, China and the United States.
Cortical Dynamics' vision is to be a leading brain function monitoring company with an excellent reputation for innovation, product development and strong commercial management.
Its strategy is to work with opinion leaders to encourage early adoption, and Cortical Dynamics has to date supplied BARM’s to the following hospitals to facilitate trial use and evaluation:
St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Fitzroy, Melbourne;
Epworth Private Hospital, Melbourne, both in Richmond, and Freemasons
St Luke’s Hospital, Potts Point, Sydney,
Strathfield Private Hospital, Strathfield;
Cairns Hospital, Cairns
Waikato Hospital, Hamilton, New Zealand (supervised by Dr Jamie Sleigh – a world a leading world authority on anaesthesia monitoring and the neurobiological mechanisms that underlie consciousness and Professor at the Waikato Clinical School, an academic division of the University of Auckland’s Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences at Waikato Hospital.)
Hôpital Foch, Paris, including a proposed trial by Medsteer, a company based at Hôpital Foch which is developing a closed loop anaesthetic control system based on TIVA.
As at March 2018, the BARM has been used in over 50 operations at these hospitals, with positive outcomes. In particular, this ongoing experience has provided Cortical with invaluable feedback on practical aspects of the usage of the unit (e.g. display format, ease of connections, etc.) which allows it to fine-tune important aspects of the BARM before its general release to the wider market.
Any Chance this will be listed soon ??
