First of all let me start of by saying i am a cricket nut. Having said that i think with cricket it might be 70 days of coverage but 25-30 days will probably be allocated to Test Matches (usually summer has 5-6 matches in a year). Some seasons they have a big series such as Ashes, South Africa, India, etc but other times it can be poor teams like West Indies, Bangladesh, etc. Also with test matches it can finish earlier than 5 days so this is potentially lost revenue or viewers for Seven.
Tennis might only last 14 days but generally the nature of the comp is such that there should be a lot more concentrated viewership during this time. Also tennis as a result of been a Grand Slam and also having so many international competitors will have a much greater overseas audience and i guess the opportunity for Channel 9 to sell content to overseas channels.
While Channel 9 will probably be annoyed at losing cricket considering they have broadcasted since Kerry Packers rebel tour, just from a business perspective i think its a good decision.
Personally i am annoyed - not at all a fan of the fact Fox may get exclusive rights to some games.
