2 cynical views:
- new CEO is setting expectations very low to make his future performance look better. Wouldn't you want every skeleton out of the closet when you took over? Strategy is old and predictable - happens often. For viable companies, I often wait for a new CEO to come in, wait for the inevitable bad news and if the subsequent price drop is excessive, then buy and wait.
- gives Joe Lewis an opportunity to mop up shares cheaply from uninformed and panicked buyers
