Something I forgot to put in the above post for further thought on the organic milk production end of the value chain. ODFC (Organic Dairy Farm Cooperative) is way ahead of any competitor in the production of organic milk for processing and they also have their own small processing plant in Geelong.
Now some history, ODFC and AHF had an arrangement with the processing of organic milk at the CDC plant in Camperdown in the early days and that may well exist but it doesn't appear to be part of the new strategy unless it is one of the "commercially sensitive" bits they speak so often of. But back to the history of AHF and ODFC, it was loosely referred to as a joint venture where in fact it wasn't, it was CDC doing contract processing of ODFC milk to produce a range of ODFC products for ODFC to sell through its own sales channels and part of the asset ownership of the equipment at CDC was owned by ODFC.
A couple of years ago ODFC established its own plant in Geelong thereby negating any need for AHF and whether AHF does any ODFC processing now at all has never been fully disclosed to the market. Based on the revenues from CDC it would appear not.
ODFC has moved on and now has some better business partners with WHA and BGA and it also has the lion share of milk production through its own co-op as well as an established sales and distribution channel and add this to its own processing facility it makes ODFC a leader in this area and it is not only not ASX listed but is a cooperative structure
So with the new strategy of AHF's if there was any business links with ODFC left it would have been heralded from the roof tops as that could well have been quite a tipping point for garnering investment support for AHF and potentially attract some institutional appetite for funding but alas....silence, including silence from ODFC who is not constrained in its announcements by ASX Listing rules.
When joining the dots of a company's intent and announced plans so you can get a better picture as to what they are up to it is a case of sometimes the dots aren't necessarily adjacent and it takes effort to find and join the right ones.
