I agree with your thesis, Auto. Congrats on getting in 10c cheaper than yours truly.
Shorters are often proven correct, as in Myer and Slater Gordon. At these levels in AAC, though, they would have to seriously consider covering at least some of them, particularly if their average shorting price is $1.40+. They're banking on no news being bad news, and so far they're right. They may not be right forever.
I'm encouraged by the share-cynical Amused Observer appearing to warm to the stock. While he is the master of Schadenfreude, he often speaks wisely.
