Yeah, it's a doozy. Most companies (at least that i'm aware of) report the P&L as comparable (i.e. 31 Dec 17 vs 31 Dec 16), but the balance sheets for 1H reporting are out of whack as you get 30 June vs 31 December. It's frustrating.
