Your missing the point. Its not about ICE v electric & Musk is not our savior.
Its about the trumpped up Greenies ramping this down our throats as being the only possible path forward & that the time is now & stuff the cost to the tax payer.
The energy density in a battery is simply not good enough at this point in time.
Even Musks delivery of his super car & Truck is based on EXTRAPOLATED (read hoping) improvement in battery technology to deliver the range etc he is advertising.
Electric motors have always been superior & have been around longer its the fuel tank that is lacking.
This is not "new" Elon musk delivered technology.
When energy density & charge time issues are reduced to a point lower that ICE then it will be main stream.
If you are embracing this change (AS I AM) you can only come to the conclusion that the only possible path forward to feed the ravenous power need will be NUCLEAR IN AUSTRALIA.
China have got it right, 38 Nuclear power stations operational & another 20 under construction.
Get the power delivery base in place first, then out law ICE engines, if you must.
How many kWh of ICE motor usage is used in Australia - & we are going to replace this with what?? Buring more coal or in the case of South Australia case the Big Battery will keep them on the road ---NOT - it can't even keep the light on for 3 minutes for the state.
