The battery storage has proven to be extremely profitable in SA. It probably makes sense depending on the size/value and distribution of the spikes in WA. The issue is finance. CCE don’t have the cash or finance to add a battery (we are probably getting fleeced on the current construction finance).
Peak power usage is during the day so the PV will benefit from spikes too. It’s hard to tell exactly how much additional benefit you get from a battery. It’s a non trivial modelling problem. We can’t build batteries as cheaply as Tesla can. Would be nice to know some of our battery system costs are though and how far we are away.
