From what I can gather from some contributors to this forum that know the industry, it came as quite a surprise that CCE had chosen to go down the merchant power sale route.

I am just guessing but perhaps WA lends itself to this type of agreement, more so than the Eastern Australian grid.

I am thinking that WA being a separate grid, does not have many options when things go wrong. It might be that they have to pay top dollar more often.

I believe their aging coal fired power station is not that flash, which might be their main problem.
