You can't eat mallees and that will never change. The irony being for this crop is that the most exciting potential lies in the cellulosic ethanol market. A market a carbon trading system locks the crop out of for 100 years. Preying on a very basic level of understanding of what is happening in the real world of agriculture. We live in a carbon constrained world and that is going to get worse. The wood heater market in Perth has seen a dramatic turn around in the last 2 years as natural gas prices and electricity have increased significantly.
Locking land away from food production when food commodities are spiking across the whole complex is pure madness. And food prices are still set to double and triple from this point. Better to focus on tree crops that still generate a carbon sink but also yield harvestable commodities such as nuts and fruit.
But ... trade the naivity while it is there.
