Charts etc are good because they give some structure to your decision, they give the illusion of being in control and are therefore comforting to many technical investors. On the other hand, I don't see the market as an orderly world, I see the spec market as a fickle, bipolar force of nature which will stampede over your prettiest chart on the way to the door. I work on instinct and I like to protect capital, if I get it wrong on a new spec stock, I admit it to myself, then reposition my money in a stock where I seem to be getting it right.
