The recent nightmare with RFG and its unfortunate franchisees has made me think about CKF and how it differs (as a large scale franchisee to YUM). It is clearly profitable to operate a KFC and CKF does seem to have some bargaining power with suppliers (it has been mentioned a few times that they can receive cost benefits from their scale in this area) which is one of the big issues for the RFG franchisees as they appear to be forced to purchase their product at an unreasonably high cost from RFG. Comparing the two it is probably also beneficial that a lot of CKF locations are standalone rather than in shopping centre food courts saving them from exorbitant rental increases and the shopping centres flooding the market with food options. Just an interesting comparison.
