Zen Energy have just bought a retail electricity licence. CCE already have one for WA (Clear Energy P/L), courtesy of the EMC acquisition.
It will be interesting to see what financial benefits either of these companies gain from having a licence.
Perhaps in the case of CCE it won't really come into play until they start receiving income from some of the microgrids about to come on line. It will also be interesting to see how they price battery storage.
How does having a retail licence fit into sale of power on a merchant basis?
"South Australia based Zen Energy has obtained its electricity retailer licence that it will allow it offer what it has described as a “baseload renewable energy” product to big energy users, as well as proceed with the massive 1GW solar and storage facility at the Whyalla Steelworks."
