Or not. The ground water is saline , the irrigation water that is used is from irrigation channels (you can see them on Google Maps). There doesn't appear must irrigation anyway but you are correct that the locals will need to be on board. It really comes down to what they find, open cut or underground. If what I think is there is correct, it won't be a problem. Glta and Dyor.
