According to the local rag (The West Australian, 18/11/2017) Newcrest has had to scale back the size of its planned 2018 redundancy program at Telfer after the unexpected success of its anti-royalty campaign. What must have seemed like a great free parting PR shot setting up a plausible excuse for the poor performance at Telfer, has backfired into a bit of a nightmare for NCM. Apparently, not politically feasible to have mass redundancies at the moment after NCMs foray into the WA political landscape, despite the business needs to shut a loss making operation.
