I couldn't see enough detail in what HGO has released re pumped storage, but the suggested height differences between upper and lower reservoirs indicated to me that maybe they were considering the main pit. Ideal for pumped hydro of course as they would get max energy storage per unit of water, but I can't yet see how that works with underground mining - maybe as you say it is only bottom part of main pit above an access point to underground.
