Not sure the practicalities of smelting has changed all that much in 50 years. As long as they are upgraded to modern conveyers, motors, furnace elements and what not then basically it would be a waste to buy new ones as a giant oven and pouring bucket is the same now as it was in 1964. Hell, i think the smelters at wollongong steel works are older than that, they just added sensors and hydraulics as time progress so they could run it with computers not people.
