n late June, the Pueblo and El Paso county health departments hosted free TB clinics for the 160 individuals who were identified as having close contact with Dangol.
The first clinic was well-attended but Carrillo said those needing the follow-up test have not responded as health officials would like them to.
"We've sent out letters and we've been making phone calls; we've done everything we can to try and get these people to come in and be re-tested," Carrillo said. "If I were a parent of one of those students, I certainly would want that follow-up test." Carrillo said enough time has passed that if an individual is carrying TB, a test now will show a positive result.
"If it shows positive, that doesn't necessarily mean that you have active TB but that you may have been exposed to someone with active TB," she said, adding that a positive result does not necessarily mean a person is contagious, but would indicate the need for further testing and precautionary treatment.
Carrillo said the follow-up tests can be done at CSU-Pueblo's student health services or at the health department.
"These services are all free of charge and it's so important, not only for your health but also for your peace of mind."
