It was 2 deg higher because in Germany they used to grow vineyards 200m higher up the mountains than they are able to do today.
If you had studied geography at high school (when they actually taught stuff) you would have remembered that every 100m you go up a mountain the temperature drops by 1 deg.
They also grew vineyards in Nova Scotia at about the same time, not able to now.
