No, don't think that is it.
Think weather.com is a bit lazy with their acknowledgements and simply tag these images that way as a catch-all even though all were watermarked nearmap and obviously aerial rather than satelite.
I don't know the ins and outs of DigitalGlobe's business model, but I'd be very surprised if it included the resale of hi-res aerial imagary from another provider.
