part of the problem is as you've pointed out the politics in Australia. the uranium prospects here, in fact the entire energy production ethos in Australia is dictated by an irrational ideology and not scientific fact.
Asian countries taking on nuclear will easily be able to buy Uranium from Canada instead of Australia - just like the deal India made with Canada last year or so - Australia had a great chance there, which of course was completely lost.
