Yes eshmun - agree with those comments about the width of the beam of the SEM and the limitations with detection in some of the lighter elements - I probably should have noted how small that beam is - and consequently - the limits of making broad interpretations from such small areas of data. You have explained it much better than I could have, anyway.
I agree totally that a petrographic study in a series of gabbro thin sections would be warranted/desirable, if the gold and platinum group minerals and grades are really as high as suggested by their extraction methods, then they should have no problem getting some decent mineralogical info from a series of thin sections and an optical microscope. This sort of work and report could take a few weeks by an expert - and I would like to know whether this thin section work has commenced, or not.
