HarleyRider, what type of smelter? Is it copper OR Ferro alloys like FeMn and SiMn? Do you have a link if its Ferro Alloys, I already know about the Cu smelter.
I'd doubt whether any big operator would build a Ferro alloy plant in Indonesia, considering the power cost in Indonesia. I note that the ferro alloy plants in Sarawak Malaysia will be paying 40% less in 20 years time for their power than GMC would pay today. OM Sarawak, Pertama Ferroalloys and Sakura Ferro alloys will only be paying US$0.065c/KWh in twenty years time. They have a 20 year contract with a 2.5% annual increase. GMC will pay US$0.11c today, heavens knows how much in 10 or 20 years time.
I don't think any large company would be foolish enough to build a ferro alloy plant in Indonesia, especially when you consider the limited amount of Manganese ore available, it doesn't even rate on the worlds manganese supplies. Unlike Tshipi in SA which has a 100 year mine life and targeting 3 million tonnes this year. This is partly owned by Jupiter mines JMS 49.9% and OMH 13% . One of the worlds biggest manganese mines plus the longest mine life.
