BHP exited KI for a very good reason: Strip Ratio. They had to do a major highwall cutback to keep mining and that cost just didn't stack up against the lower capital intensity of their operations in the Hamersley Basin.
A newcomer could/would view as a standalone decision. BHP couldn't.
