Hi mate, cheers. I have checked out Norgate and it seems pretty reasonable. I might try and find some RT data though (maybe esignal?) I think as I am active all day so probably a good investment from the get go i think. Currently tossing up whether to have a look at Amibroker or just use excel for now. Only just starting out on this area anyway so mainly a side project for now but goal is to be able to do quant studies on my ideas before trading them live, discretionarily (not a word) as i do now.
I can tell you and @Jako64, among others, have experience with this so id be keen to hear any advice. I am currently learning to code on an as needed basis and not finding it too hard to understand so dont think ill have any issues there (also have a mate helping me whose a software engineer which makes it easier lol). Started a basic project in excel the other day for nothing more than a learning exersize really, just a study on if the XJO closed down > 0.6% and you bought a basket of the gold majors in the auction and sold in the following open whether it'd be profitable in the long term. Very easy exersize and one that i guess is thrown around a bit as a strategy so thought it'd be interesting to quantify. Anyway, I'd like to start with simple stuff like that and then move to more complex ideas that i would potentially trade if i found it had an actual edge. Did some stats and engineering math courses back in uni so I understand about in/out sample data, monte carlo etc so more in need of advice on platforms or setups that I should begin this journey in.
Cheers guys
