I'm pretty sure that's incorrect. The Allens article states that law firms can't share in the win pool (i.e. litigation settlement). Their only revenue is for legal services, which comes out of the win pool, but the funders receive % of the net pool after costs.
By self-funding I assume law firms retain 100% of the fee for legal services.
