Now that FIFO has dropped off in QLD I can't imagine it was cost effective to operate flights out of Brisbane using new ATRs with expensive lease costs.
Not privy to the details but it does seem like a short sighted decision not to bring them into the fleet on temporary leases when the eventual drop off in FIFO labour requirements in QLD was forecast from the outset. But that's just an outsider's view.
