WELLINGTON, May 18 (Reuters) - Consumer confidence in New Zealand rose in May as low unemployment and rising house prices made people more optimistic, a survey showed on Thursday.

The ANZ-Roy Morgan consumer confidence index rose to 123.9 from 121.7 in the previous month. A reading above 100 shows optimism, while below that indicates pessimism.

Expectations for consumer price inflation over the next two years declined to 3.6 percent from 4 percent in the previous survey.
