It's my belief that the Chinese will use Diatreme as a vehicle to explore and appropriate Australian resources and therefore will not allow it to collapse. They may of course acquire it for very little as you say. I've said before that the Chinese plan is to take the raw sands concentrate to China for processing which should benefit them provided they can do this at a break even or a profit. The Tick Hill project could be a major winner when the ore extension is discovered, in the meantime it's a fizzer because of the inactivity of Diatreme to extract the gold from the tailings. This should be a simple cheap grind and cyanide but while the opportunity for doing this is knocking at the front door they're out in the back yard looking for 4 leaf clovers.
