Slave labor was used almost exclusively to build it and modern scholars even suggest that slave traders had their slaves make them without reference to the ruling Pharaoh but that may be a discussion for another thread as there is something interesting about modern day groceries.

Sainsbury's has just come up with a result relevant to WOW. The English grocer bought Argos, a sought of Target/ Kmart/ distribution store where all the good stuff is out the back of the store. Now even tho the result was slightly down on expectations, the Argos result was phenomenal and it is the distribution arm result that is starting to matter. Analysts are now predicting Sainsbury's will take over and disrupt the likes of Tescos, Morrisons, Waitrose Cooperative using this model of Sainsbury's and its distribution arm, Argos, an old Wesfarmers like store.

Such an outcome would be more similar to the Wesfarmers model with Coles than the stand-alone WOW and delivery does not appear to have taken off in Australia but is bound to happen one day. How will WOW fair then?

What is CEO Banducci doing about modernisation and the modern discounting pattern of the grocers? WOW might get left behind if his thinking is not lateral enough.

He should take lessons from Old England.
