London-listed TLA Worldwide full-year profit results have been boosted considerably by the 2015 acquisition of the Elite Sports Properties athlete management and sports sponsorship business.
TLA, which is chaired by Melbourne Storm majority owner and chairman Bart Campbell, last week announced earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation of $US13.4 million from revenue of $US44.4 million for the year to December 31, up 49 per cent and 114 per cent, respectively, on the previous year.
The firm's sports marketing division, which includes ESP (now rebranded as TLA Australia), had revenue of $US29.3 million, up 283 per cent on 2014.
ESP, which is headed by former AFL player Craig Kelly and Olympic swimmer Rob Woodhouse, was sold to TLA in March 2015 in a deal that could be worth up to $25.5 million, depending on performance hurdles being met.
The sports marketing business successfully hosted its first leg of the International Champions Cup football tournament in 2015 at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, including a match between Real Madrid and Manchester City attended by 99,000 spectators.
TLA signed a three-year extension with the Victorian government to continue to host the event in Melbourne, and also clinched deals to bring a United States college game to Sydney this year and host a rugby union match in Chicago between world champions New Zealand and Ireland.
TLA's other division, a baseball player agency business in the US, had a 15 per cent increase in annual revenue to $US15.1 million.
The division manages 289 baseball players, including 94 at the elite Major League Baseball level.
