I hope our bio-security people are up on this. With our dreadful record of importing environmentally disastrous life forms from overseas, the importation of this sea louse would make a real mess of fin fish aquaculture in this country.
The importation of feed from affected areas (such as northern Europe) should be investigated. The fishmeal component of these feeds includes recycling offal from the processing of salmon and may well include the sea louse - it is a notoriously hardy parasite - something mentioned several times in the Guardian article.
Any thoughts?
