The advantage of participating in the pre trading & post trading auctions is you have a chance to buy or sell shares at a more favourable price, than the fixed prices during regular trading.

Eg. If you were going to buy shares at 0.01 in regular trading during the day, why not wait to the auction as this guy did who bid 599,999 @ 0.01. The luck went his way this arvo and he picked up his shares at 0.009, saving him $600 dollars.

Of course, it also goes the sellers way when more want to buy than sell and they benefit in the auction.

It's all game playing and tactics, but when you intended to buy or sell at a particular price and you come out ahead it a good buzz.
