    there are several major electronics/consumer goods stores you can walk into and buy those things from. yodobashi, bic camera, yamada denki... but you would never personally load it into your car and drive home with it. everything would be shipped unless its small enough to be carried. all those stores have online components that allow you to buy online and not walk into the store itself. i just checked with yodobashi, delivery fee for a washing machine and fridge is: $0... that actually surprised me.

    Japanese people dont even take their luggage to the airport, they ship it for about $20, so they can catch the train to the airport without the hassle of travelling with their luggage.

    australia is obviously not japan. geographically, its much larger and has a much smaller population density, so remains to be seen if companies like amazon can make the free/next day delivery component of the business work. australians also have cars, many japanese people dont even have a license...
