Not sure what the difference between the export and local cost of gas is. Have an impression that Aus is selling export gas at a lower price than the domestic supply which seems to discredit free market economics.
WA has a portion of gas (15%?) set aside for the local market can't see why the eastern states can't follow suit.
Would think export is for surplus supply and like petrol is priced at an equivalent world price with the cheaper distribution costs internally should provide an economic benefit locally.

Agriculture provided over $60 Billion to the export economy last year and the trend is increasing ~ need to be careful with impact of fracking in the Ag belts. Plenty of gas at Moomba without the water table concerns raised
