This is the problem with our government.Due to a pile of promises made to SA regarding jobs and a viable industry, lets do the least productive way to an end and insist these are built in SA , even though we have a capable Australian company in another state who could probably do the job more efficiently and cost effectively , but no if they want in then they must move 1000km or buy out existing business and infastructure and keep the jobs in SA and keep Mr X and his senators in SA happy.
I wonder whether it would be best for Austral to have 2 ship yards and have SA focussing on Government contracts , leaving WA as a support and also look to build ferry business more with additional capacity?
With the govt requirements the contract will be less attractive.
Has anyone any idea on the quality and suitability of infastructure in SA currently and how it compares with WA shipyard?
