An interesting observation although I would imagine having clinical depression probably also erodes conviction/patience to hold investments so the overall benefit may not be that great.

I've thought for a long time that given the high financial rewards of and hence strong competition for jobs in the funds management industry, most who end up working there must necessarily lack the ability to robustly question their own judgements. The qualities that make someone highly employable (confidence, motivation, the ability to persuade others etc) are pretty much mutually exclusive with the ability to consistently and continuously question and doubt your beliefs.

And questioning and doubting your beliefs is core to successful investing in my opinion, in the same way as it is the key to uncovering any truth.

Then again I would say that as someone who is not a fund manager lol.


Also, as an aside does the pleasure from the ability to generate superior investment returns outweigh the pain of clinical depression?
