Nice to see the domestic side of life brought to the fore of this high-powered HC elite.
I have upped my input into the chores side of our marriage since retirement 4 years ago. I do regular "arbitrage" between Coles and Woollies and the local Aldi, and occasional forays to the specialist fruit & veg outlets.
We also order organic meat from online sources as there seems no other source. We were vegetarian till recently.
In addition we are gluten and dairly free and shop at some health food stores to get a range of flours- banana, tapioca, buckwheat etc that are intermittently available at Coles and Woolies, but not at Aldi.
For fruit & veg we also choose organic as first choice. The stock level of organic Fruit and Veges varies erratically at my Coles and Woolies. So we usually see what we can get from Coles or Woolies, whichever closer to the activities of the day and get the non-organic at Aldi.
Aldi is average 60-70% of price of Coles & Woollies for fruit & veges, but don't have any organic lines.
Our local specialist fruit & veg is more of a cultural experience than Aldi, but I find the quality to be poor.
It takes a bit more time to shop at 2 stores than 1, plus the online stores, but we are pretty serious about our health and our wealth, a $ saved is a $ earned, (or more if you are paying tax)
I have no issue with "paying" for a trolley, since you (almost) always get your coin back and that is more than I can say for the ASX. My Aldi coin works in the $2 slot of the Coles and Woollies trolleys anyway so not much capital tied up there!
I like the self-checkout at Coles and Woolies, as that is the future and certainly rewards the time taken to learn to do it. I take more care with the packing, putting cold items with cold items for food safety reasons.
Aldi checkout is faster than I can do it myself at Coles and Woollies and there is no choice anyway.
I don't bother with the specials in the centre of the Aldi store, unless something catches my eye.
That's all I can think to share. Let me move over to the vacuuming and clothes line arranging threads now...
