As you likely know, both Netflix and Stan offer content that the other doesn’t or can’t due to regional licensing agreements. You may well prefer Netflix content, but others may not. If the numbers quoted in the below article are accurate, then Stan, while very much the younger sibling, is a significant presence.

The joint venture between Nine Entertainment Co and Fairfax Media [at Sep 2016] reaches more than 1.3 million active individuals in over 550,000 households. This makes it the second-largest SVOD service after Netflix, which is reported to have at least 1.7 million households subscribing, according to Roy Morgan figures.

Also, perhaps there’s room in the market for both Netflix and Stan.

Local competitor Stan actually benefits from continued Netflix growth. As the more widely known service, Netflix is the gateway into SVOD. The bulk of Stan’s customers started with Netflix before adding the second service to their home entertainment mix.

It may be premature to write off Stan.
