Why wouldn't Gates play both sides of the fence though? Synthetic meat is all well and good, but i think there is so many more factors that could be extremely detrimental to its launch. Such as, contamination, nutritional values, Longitudinal studies that prove the safety for human consumption and probably one of, if not the biggest factors marketing, "This meat came from a vat of goo" doesn't sound very appetizing to me. The cost/benefit/return ratio from farming cattle to producing synthetic meat would be interesting to see.
