I had a similar issue and rang registery direct. That's my advice to you - call them. They asked me for the HIN number and could then confirm that the cheque had been cancelled. In the interim, the money had already been electronically deposited to my account.
My mistake was to be slow in updating my bank account details prior to the cap return -
