Clay soils, had to do 600mm depth foundations along with 2 bridges over the sewer pipe with 5 x 2 metre deep bored piers.
When i told concretors that 30cu is needed they all laughed and said I got my figures wrong.... in the end I had the last laugh... and the empty wallet.
Everyone kinda agreed that the engineer went overboard, but also said if Brisbane were to ever get bombed your shed slab would be the best bomb shelter around.
Originally I was only going to do a 12x6 shed, but the size was still within the rules of having a sewer build over and thus the permit for doing so was still the same $$ if it were to go over it or not. On the spot pretty much said if 6m causes a build over lets go 7m wide then, was about another $2,000 for that extra metre but I totally agree the size is just never big enough.
Council knows how to get money out of you... 2 lots of boundary relaxations, another boundary relaxation one side is over 9metres in length, sewer build over, certify fees etc... all up about $2,500. Engineer... talk about a joke, on site probably 15-20minutes for a test hole, then a 2 minute check before the slab pour... $1,005!
