Fiji military meets PM From correspondents in Suva November 03, 2006 FIJI'S acting military commander today met the nation's embattled prime minister.
Captain Esala Telani said the meeting with Prime Minister Laisenia Qarase took place this morning but he wouldn't say what was discussed.
The nation's military commander Commodore Frank Bainimarama, who is overseas, has raised fears of a coup by threatening to force Mr Qarase to quit.
Capt Telani today repeated Commodore Bainimarama's assurances that the military would not stage a coup.
He told a parade of 1000 soldiers and reservists at Suva's Queen Elizabeth Barracks today to forget any suggestion of a coup, saying that was not what the military was for.
