Hi WaitandC
Looks like this has been a labour/liberal arm wrestle for several years now. Allseas 2012 court win for foreign worker visa exemption was legislated against later in gillard gov' dying days, which then was legislated back other way in 2015 by libs. See following good overview to 2014.

This case seems to tip back other way for good, closing visa exemption and aust labour laws in aust offshore waters. Obvious effect will be aust pay and conditions.
Allseas was about specialised pipe layers, but this ruling much broader and covering all offshore support vessels in aust waters employing foreign labour. By my read basically levels playing field for MMA from cost perspective for all aust projects (while big construction projs mostly over for some time, will be impt with targeted bread and butter offshore production support work).
Anyway a small positive in amongst all the doom and gloom.
